AGEMA Work is again expanding into a new region that includes the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The region will be managed by Sureka Smith. With the expansion into the new territory, AGEMA Work will be able to support hospitality, healthcare, and labour businesses by filling employment gaps in the GTA simply by connecting skilled professionals with regional employers that hope to fill vacant shifts.

In recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the pool of talent available in the hospitality industry, due to the mass retirement of older workers and the resignation of younger workers who felt overworked and underappreciated. As a result, statistics have indicated that about 64% of businesses in the industry will face acute labour shortages making it the highest proportion out of all other sectors. This has set employers on the frustrating path of sourcing and keeping employees. Fortunately, AGEMA Work has set up a tried-and-true structure that take potential employees through a comprehensive vetting process and match them up with the most suited employers in Ontario, Canada’s hospitality services industry.

The new region manager, Sureka, is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s (formerly Ryerson University) Bachelor of Commerce Hospitality & Tourism Management Program and has 14 years of experience in the industry. In addition, Sureka was most recently the Work Integrated Learning Coordinator for the Hospitality Management portfolio at the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) at Centennial College and currently works part-time as a professor with SHTCA.

She is prepared to take the AGEMA Work company to the next level and had this to say about the recent development: “I look forward to bridging the gap between the employees and employers with a fresh perspective and shaping the future of staffing throughout the GTA.”

Founder and CEO of Agema Work, Michael Agema, also chipped in on the importance of the expansion: “It is truly an exciting time and the dawn of a new era for AGEMA Work. As our business grows into new areas, we can aid in the elimination of staff shortages that negatively affect the hospitality and tourism industry”.
